Settle to Carlisle Railway Line

From the nearby market town of Settle runs the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway Line. Whilst I was in town yesterday I took these photos of the station. It was quiet as the station waiting rooms were closed and there was no train due for 30 minutes.
This is the platform for trains arriving from Carlisle going on to Leeds

You have to change trains at Leeds to go on to London

The Settle to Carlisle Line was saved from closure in the 1980s by the efforts of the Friends of Settle - Carlisle Line. Read more about it HERE
The lovely old victorian bridge that links the platforms
The dark lump you can see in the distance is Pen-y-ghent, the lowest of the 3 Peaks. Read about the 3 Peaks  & Pen-y-ghent HERE
The view towards Carlisle from the bridge
The view towards Skipton & Leeds

The building you can see in the distance painted cream & green is the old water tower that fed the station. It has been restored & converted into a house. You can see there is a glass extension on the roof. There was a man sitting in the evening sunshine on the balcony when I was taking the photos so I didn't like to aim my camera at his home directly - I'll take some photos another day - it's a very impressive conversion. It was featured on the TV Show Restoration Man, read about it HERE
