A Drive to Horton in Ribblesdale

This is the river on the way to Horton in Ribblesdale.
 Read about Horton HERE.
I stopped to take some pictures on my way to the station there where I was meeting a friend travelling by train from Skipton.
The hillside down to the river is pretty steep but it didn't seem to bother the sheep grazing there.

This tree looked like it had been struck by lightning & then the broken part cut into logs
On the way to the station I passed this cottage with homemade fudge & fruity flapjack for sale.
The station was deserted, even though it is officially spring there are hardly any tourists here in the Dales at the moment - still pretty cold here despite the bouts of sunshine.
Horton is very popular with walkers undertaking the 3 Peaks Walk. The train brings walkers & campers from Leeds, Bradford & further afield.
The fell you can see in the distance to the right of the station is Pen-y-ghent, the starting point of the 3 Peaks Walk.
The station at Horton is very similar to the station at Settle, it is the next station on the line from Settle heading north towards Carlisle.
A view of Pen-y-ghent across the football pitch taken as we were leaving the village.
On the way back we passed Lawkland Hall, a lovely old Elizabethan House with beautiful gardens. It is a private house but the gardens are open to the public during the summer as part of the National Gardens Scheme. Read about the NGS HERE.

We stopped to buy some eggs at this farmyard gate.
Couldn't resist a photo of this quaint old cottage.
